Review: Those Across the River

Those Across the River
Those Across the River by Christopher Buehlman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Best damned horror novel I have read in a few years. I took my time finishing this one because I didn’t want it to end. This surprised me a little and I like being surprised. Buehlman entertains while cultivating a palpable dread in the tiny, nowhere southern town that is the setting for this expertly crafted tale. Set in a time after the first World War, the author has done a wonderful job of crafting a particular narrative voice that is both blunt and often lyrical while weaving in spot-on historical details. Just brilliant. Honestly, I don’t want to cover too much of it here in this review because I think it’s best if the reader slowly unravels it for themselves. I urge you to do so. Truly an excellent book.
