Review: Recovery

RecoveryRecovery by Adam Aresty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first offering from the new indie publisher, Kraken Press and I’d say they’re off to a hell of a start. Aresty’s novella that centers on the horrifying events that take place after an oxy addict agrees to go into treatment and get clean. While this is not necessarily supernatural horror, it is nonetheless horrific and the extraordinary elements of the plot do not overshadow the harrowing process or the mechanics of addiction recovery. I found myself pulling for the main character to make the right decisions as he faced temptations but all the while other forces were working against him. “Recovery” is a great, page-turning, mind-bending read and I will be looking forward to more from Adam Aresty as well as Kraken Press.
