Review: Justice League Dark, Vol. 1: In the Dark

Justice League Dark, Vol. 1: In the DarkJustice League Dark, Vol. 1: In the Dark by Peter Milligan

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I know I am late to the party on this one since the Justice League Dark comics have been around since 2011 but in this case I say better late than never.
In the opening pages of Volume 1, we find good ol’ Superman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg approaching a farmhouse occupied by a decrepit old witch only to find themselves very quickly losing the battle before it has even begun as they are being torn to shreds by a massive storm of decaying teeth. While he can survive all manner of normal physical attacks, it would seem that when it comes to standing up to dark magic, the Man of Steel is little more than a paper hero.
From there on, we watch as an unlikely crew of folks come together; folks who walk in the shadows uninhabitable by the regular Justice League. It’s a super-fun read and I will be following it up with Vol. 2 and 3 (when it comes out) as well as picking up the monthly comic from now on. Also, thanks to JLD, I think I may have a new favorite superhero in the murdered acrobat, Deadman who possesses the bodies of others.
If you love comics with a dark edge, then this is for you. Pick it up.
